Question:

I was on the CoachVille teleclass this morning and my pressing question is: what if I am *not* funny...? This is actually my biggest fear -- that I'll be boring because I don't know how to be humorous. Or I might say something that I think is funny but no one responds. Look forward to receiving your free report from Kim George. Many thanks for an insightful teleclass! Warmly, Duanna

The Coach Sez:

Hello Duanna, Fun is all around us. Observe when that happens in your life - then retrieve and retell the "story." No need to tell jokes just note what in your life is light and fun.

Visit this web site. - jeannerobertson.com She is a master at telling personal funny stories.

Attend comedy clubs and listen to what the stand up comics speak about and note their timing. I am not suggesting you be a stand up comic, just observe humor in different forms. Any TV shows come to mind?

I hope this is helpful.

Question:

I have been a journalist and author for 20 yrs. I love to speak and want to be represented by a bureau. How do I find one that books authors on food, travel and writing?

The Coach Sez:

Hello Linda, Thank you for writing. Bureaus are limiting the number of new speakers they are representing at this time. These are the things that will get you noticed by bureaus:

  1. An unusual topic(s).
  2. A presentation with great content and excellent delivery.
  3. Your fee should be around $5000 or more.
  4. You have a top notch media kit that includes your one page and video or DVD demo.

If you fit this template, then do a search on Google, and contact a few bureaus to see how they respond. If you are not yet bureau ready, consider hiring a coach to help you get there quickly. You may also wish to order my tape on "How to Get Bureaus to Call You" at: schrift.com/audio.html

I hope this is helpful.

Question:

I was wounded in Iraq in 2003. I have overcome every obstacle thrown at me and I want to tell people about. I feel I was kept in this world to do this, but it has been hard to get people to notice me. Im a spokesman for an organization & have made many tv, radio, print, & speaking engagements. What should I do to get noticed by a speaking bureau?

The Coach Sez:

Thank you for writing, Jose. You appear to have an inspiring story and message. However, do not approach a speaker bureau until you are packaged and have had a number of paid speaking engagements. To start, you will need an excellent speech, a one page, a video demo, some testimonials and a speaking fee that is at least $3000.00 If you are not this far along, you should consider working with a coach to help you get there.

I hope this is helpful.
