your speaking skills or speaking business?"

Question:
I lead a Tony Robbins alumni group in South Florida called "The Florida Power Team." I have developed 3 self-help presentations that I would like to present for a fee. What is the best way to market these on a local/regional/national basis?
The Coach Sez:
Lots of time and energy needed on your part. Develop a group of advocates and stay in touch with them monthly (by email, snail mail and phone) to advise them of your progress and needs. Be sure they understand what you are doing and who you do it best for so that they can refer you to the right groups. You can also check out directories for associations and corporations and contact them to see if they need what you offer.
And you can hire a coach, like me, to cut your learning curve.
Question:
I am just starting to need a speaker's bureau. I have been able to do quite well from referrals, but now am ready to increase my prices and step further into the international arena. I have a strong platform, but don't know what the bureaus want. I know they want my prices to be as high as possible because they work on commission. However, I might be willing to cut my price if it were in a city I had relatives or the organization would buy a lot of my books. I am just not sure how to deal with speaking bureaus to let them know that I can be somewhat flexible with my fees.
The Coach Sez:
Good to hear from you. You need to contact bureaus one by one and see what their interest is and their policies. They are like individuals - all different.
Did you order my tape on: "How to get Speaker Bureaus to Call You?" fifty minutes of information and a list of nearly 80 speaker bureau's to help you at : schrift.com/shopping.html
Question:
Hi Sandra! I'm so excited!! I just concluded my very first speaking engagement --- what a rush!! I can hardly wait to do it all over again. Help!! Where do I go from here??
The Coach Sez:
A few options to shorten your learning curve:
1. You can purchase one of my products that are great for self directed people. They are available at: schrift.com/shopping.html
2. Do some individual coaching with me. I offer a 30 minute complimentary coaching call to see what your needs are and how we may work together.
For now, keep speaking, even for free. Contact service organizations which meet weekly and always need speakers to get on their program. Let your friends and business acquaintances know what you speak on and that you are available to speak.
Question:
My question is more about the business of speaking, rather than the skills of speaking. How do I begin the process? I am comfortable in front of groups. I need to get more opportunities to do so.
The Coach Sez:
Thank you for writing. First of all, do you wish to speak to groups for free or a fee? Opportunities to speak for free are with service clubs, networking groups and associations that meet in your community/city.
If you are looking to become a paid professional speaker, you need to follow certain steps to create your career. I help clients do that by one on one coaching and through several products that are available at : schrift.com/shopping.html Associations and corporations are two types of groups that pay speakers. For example there is a directory of 7500 associations who meet annually that you can purchase at columbiabooks.com (The National Trade and Professional Assoc and the State and Regional Assoc of the U.S.)
Question:
I sometimes experience difficulty with the "multitasking", even with a well-prepared speech with good ppt slides & (some) notes; while you are delivering the speech you must think ahead about what's next and how to anticipate to audience feedback. Is this only a matter of getting more experience, or. (thank you, Sandra!)
The Coach Sez:
Thank you for writing. Yes, experience will bring you more ease and comfort at the platform.. However, may I suggest you stop thinking about what comes next and just stay with the present. Trust that you will be able to respond to the audience feedback as you need to . Most beginning speakers focus too much on themselves and how they will be received by an audience. Remember, it is about them, not you. Relax and enjoy the journey.
